Abstract


Garâibü’s-Sıgar’da Yer Alan -GAn/-KAn Sıfat Fiilinin Söz Dizimindeki Görevleri Üzerine

Chagatai Turkish, which has an important place in the historical course of Turkish, continued its existence as the common literary language of Central Asia from the 15th century until the early 20th century. Although this literary language has trained many artists, the only name identified with Chagatai Turkish is undoubtedly Ali Shir Nevai. Many studies have been conducted on the works of Ali Shir Nevai, who is so important for Chagatai Turkish. With the desire to contribute to these studies, this article will discuss the functions of the participle -GAn/-KAn in sentences through Ali Shir Nevai's divan Garâibü's-sıgar. The participle -GAn/-KAn has been analyzed by many researchers in various forms in both historical written languages and contemporary dialects; however, this study will make a general evaluation about the duties of the related suffix in Chagatai Turkish syntax based on Alî Şîr Nevâî's Garâibü's-sıgar for the first time. In the introduction, general information about participle and Garâibü's-sıgar will be given. Then, the historical development of the suffix -GAn/-KAn and its status in contemporary dialects will be mentioned, and it will be shown in which elements of the sentence, such as subject, object, adverb, place complement and predicate in sentences and word groups, in which structures and how often it is used in Garâibü's-sıgar will be shown through selected sample couplets. In this section, the couplets will also be translated into modern Turkish for the convenience of researchers.
