Abstract

Türkçenin Söz Varlığına Farklı Bir Bakış: Deyimlerde Küçürek Hikâyeler

Idioms that help increase the power of the language and reveal cultural values have a separate unity within the vocabulary of Turkish. So much so that almost every idiom reflects the telling of a story and social structures. Therefore, idioms represent an interesting area for linguists. Storytelling is a form of communication in which people have been communicating their experiences, thoughts and imagination to each other since ancient times. The story genre, traditionally represented by short/little stories, has been experiencing a transformation in recent years with the rise of very short stories called “short-short stories”. Short-short stories express a minimal approach to traditional storytelling. These stories are usually only a few sentences or a few paragraphs long; It aims to convey an event, a feeling or a thought in a short and effective way. The use of a limited number of words to compress the meaning and provoke the reader to think is the main feature of such stories. Idioms are similar to short-short stories in terms of short, concise expressions and concretization of an event or situation, visualizing it in the mind. In fact, some of the idioms that are “predicated and formulaic in sentence form” in terms of syntax show a kind of short-short story feature. In this study, we tried to look at the vocabulary of Turkish from a different perspective by examining idiom examples in the nature of short-short stories.
