Stones, have an important place in the life of human beings who have been trying to recognize nature and every element of nature throughout ancient times. First of all, mankind met the need for shelter and protection by using stones in the construction of buildings, objects or tools. Over time stones were valued as an ornament to complemdeent the beauty of people and places, as a symbol of wealth and status. With the creation of a belief system about stones that is believed to be beneficial for living things, at times, people have sought remedies for diseases in plants or animals, relying on the healing power of stones. In addition to their medical benefits, stones were also thought to have magical and mystical powers. The first information about stones was written in ancient times. The works written in these periods were translated into Arabic starting from the 8th century and gave the first examples in the Islamic period. The first Turkish works on the subject began to be seen with the translations of works from the medieval Islamic world in the 15th century. Within the tradition of classical Turkish literature, separate works were written about stones, and sometimes a section on stones was included in works dealing with different subjects. In the 16th century, there is a section in the work titled "Mir’ât-ı Kâ’inât" written by the Bosnian Kadi Mevlânâ Gınâyî (d. after 969/1562) that contains information about stones. "Mir’ât-ı Kâ’inât" is an encyclopedic work in the genre of acâibü’l-mahlûkât and is a Turkish translation of the Arabic work "Tuhfetü’l-Acâyib ve Turfetü’l-Garâyib" by Izzeddin Ibn al-Asîr (d. 630/1233). In this study, firstly, general information and studies on stones are given in the introduction section, and then information is given about the stones explained in Mir’ât-ı Kâinât according to the understanding of knowledge and science of the period in which it was written, the properties of these stones and the purposes for which they were used.
