Âşığın Dârü’ş-Şifâsı Olarak Sevgili

Medicine has been one of the most important and attractive branches of science since the ancient times of the humanity. From Ancient Greece to Egypt, Seljuks to Ottomans, many dominant civilizations of the history paid special attention to medicine. They developed treatment methods, medications, compounds and surgery operations and created written works regarding them. People who suffered frm physical, chemical and anatomic diseases in their soul and body consulted to folk faiths, resources on the medicine science, healers and doctors. In this regard, some poets who had education on medicine or had experience on medicine used their knowledge and experience on medicine in their poems by using imagery and terms. In the Turkish poetry containing poets who directly has the knowledge of medicine or indirectly has the knowledge of medical profession, some terms are portraited used in the period’s medical jargon. The lover type who is the leading role of the classical Turkish poetry was given the image and identity of doctor by the poet. Because of this mission and taking departure from the lover type, we witness the reflection of the lover’s doctor identity, healing role, his/her affair with the beloved in the context of doctor-patient relationship, doctor practices with doctor and patient perception as themes in the poems. In the scope of this work, it is aimed to put forward the use and practice of the treatment methods, the lover’s physical aspects and location, healing medication details and other medicine knowledge in order to examine in the classical Turkish poetry by taking the lover type as a reference.
