Abstract

Akıl ve Nefis Üzerine Sembolik Okumalar: Tursun Fakı’nın “Hazreti Resûl Ebu Cehil Güreş Tuttuğudur” Başlıklı Eserinde Aklın Nefisle Mücadelesi

Tursun Fakı is one of the important scholars and poets who lived in the establishment phase of the Ottoman Empire, where the Anatolian geography was reshaped politically, culturally, socially and economically. The poet, who has contributed to the formation of the written language of Anatolian Turkish with his works, is also an important artist who lived in the establishment phase of the classical Turkish literature tradition and played a role in this process. He has many works/narratives that he tells in verse and also known by different names. One of them deals with a wrestling that takes place as a narration in various sirah books and is stated to have taken place between the Prophet Muhammad and Abu Jahl. This work gives the reading of “The Wrestling of the Prophet Muhammad and Abu Jahl” in a manuscript. At the end of the work, the author clearly states that the narrative should not be perceived as a mere narrative and wrestling, and that it has an allegorical structure. In the narrative, it is very clearly seen that the wrestling event is used as a tool or a simulated element to explain the represented element based on some of its signifiers. The narrative is about Prophet Muhammad, who is the ideal person of wrestling, and Abu Jahl, who is stated as the opposite value; It has a simile feature in which the mind and ego are the signifiers. In the narrative, Abu Jahl is used instead of ego and Prophet Muhammad is used as a metaphor instead of mind. In the final analysis, it can be said that the narrative is a symbolic expansion of the concepts of mind and soul in the sample of a wrestling match, which is thought to have taken place during the childhood years of the Prophet Muhammad. In a sense, the work is a narrative in which the struggle of the mind and soul is presented on the axis of wrestling. In the work, the subjects that human beings can achieve with the mind, and that the ego can be overcome with the mind, are discussed. Presenting the role of the mind and the importance of the mind in human life in the context of a simulation, the author emphasizes that the mind is one of the primary and essential elements of life. This article, which includes our content analysis on Tursun Fakı’s work in which he describes the image levels of mind and ego in an allegorical language, has been on an equivalent level with the author’s allegory. Our article aims to determine and interpret the image levels of neither the mind nor the ego in the work by replacing all of Abu Jahl’s characteristics and behaviors with the ego, the Prophet Muhammad, his features and behaviors with the concept of mind.
